The first of its kind in England, the scheme - launched in Leeds - will see Imams, NHS Leeds, the White Ribbon campaign, Leeds Rugby Foundation's Connecting Communities, Mosques and the Imams National Advisory Board (MINAB) working together to raise awareness of an issue that has seen more women aged 18-54 globally die from domestic violence than cancer, according to World Bank statistics. For full report click here
The collaboration is the beginning of building a relationship with Imams on related public health issues and will lead onto other similar events with other religious faiths and community groups across Leeds.
The launch was hosted at the Iqra centre and was attended by a number of key guests including Dr Hasan Al Kithab, Dr Taurabi, Sheikh Shah and Qari Asim, four distinguished and high profile Imams who are also internationally renowned speakers on subjects such as inter-faith dialogue and world peace.
Qari Asim, Chair of MINAB Youth Committee, added ‘we are delighted to support such an important initiative and will ensure the message is relayed out to the wider community’.
