Women’s Aid 36th Annual National Conference 2010: Home Secretary commits to ending violence against women
At the annual national conference, Theresa May MP, Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equality, made her first speech on Violence against Women since taking office. She made a commitment to working to end violence against women including announcing the welcome extension of the No Recourse to Public Funds pilot scheme until March 2011, and a commitment to find workable long-term solutions. The government is also reviewing the national strategy on violence against women by March 2011. The Home Secretary also engaged in discussion with the audience of 300 delegates from local services. The conference also considered a range of issues affecting survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and their children, specialist domestic and sexual violence services, and future priorities for Women’s Aid at national and local levels.
Berkshire East and South Bucks Women's Aid have opened a boutique-inspired charity shop in Farnham Common called White Ribbons, to tie in with the White Ribbon Campaign to end violence against women.
