Bradford Bulls are standing tall for victims of domestic violence by signing up to the White Ribbon Campaign, a global movement of men working to end violence against women.
The Bulls will be joining the ranks of Amir Khan, Liverpool FC, AC Milan and Inter Milan by pledging to never commit, condone or be silent about violence against women.
Andy Lynch, Chev Walker and Heath L'Estrange are signing up on International Human Rights Day (10 December) which marks the end of 16 Days of Action Against Gender Violence, a district-wide campaign to gender violence which includes reducing sexual assault, rape, serious injury, and in some cases, murder.
Bradford BullsStudies have shown that 45% of women and 26% of men in the UK have experienced at least one incident of inter-personal violence in their lifetimes.
Research shows 89% of victims who had experienced more than 4 incidents were women.
On average two women a week are killed by a male partner or former partner in the UK.
This constitutes approximately one-third of all female homicide victims.
Andy Lynch, Captain of the Bulls said "We are getting behind the White Ribbon Campaign and showing our support for this very worthy charity.
"Most men don't hit or harm women, however this campaign is about sending out a clear message that we should never remain silent or turn a blind eye to violence against women. As professional rugby league players, we play a hard physical sport against opponents who are as hard as nails. To use our might against weaker opponents wouldn't be right. Real men don't hit or harm women."
Chris Green, Director of White Ribbon UK said
"We are delighted to have the Bradford Bulls support this important cause. White Ribbon is the largest movement of its kind in the world. The campaign is about men changing men. It's about us taking more responsibility for reducing the level of violence against women. However, anyone can join White Ribbon and there are lots of simple things you can do to help bring an end to the violence.
