For those of you who don't know, in 2010 in the USA, February was declared the national teen dating violence prevention and awareness month. Unfortunately, millions of teens experience physical and sexual abuse, violence, and harassment at the hands of their romantic partner. In fact, 1 in 3 teens experience physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a partner.
Further information and resources can be found at the Teen Violence Awareness Month website. However, do remember that this is an American site. For more information on the WRC UK Valentines Day Campaign, follow the links in our Resources-->Education Resources pages.
Teen Dating Violence (DV) Prevention and Awareness Month is a national effort in the USA to raise awareness about abuse in teen and 20-something relationships and promote programs that prevent it during the month of February.
The repercussions of teen dating violence are impossible to ignore – they hurt not just the young people victimized but also their families, friends, schools and communities. Throughout February, organizations and individuals in the US come together to highlight the need to educate young people about relationships, teach healthy relationship skills and prevent the devastating cycle of abuse.
