DECEMBER ACTIVITIES

December Activities

Spending some time recovering from the work involved at the end of November it was great to have the joy of receiving reports from all over the UK, as well as the photos of the giant white ribbons, balloon releases, press stories, councillor walkabouts, young people’s events and all the other activities that went on.

Campaigning
We have developed separate pages of information on White Ribbon activities undertaken by  Football Clubs, Rugby League and Rugby Union Clubs, Police and Fire Service. They include a lot of photos.

These are useful to show when negotiating with individual organisations to show what similar sports teams or police forces have done, and are available from the office.

Annual Report
The preparation of the 2006 Annual report was done. This is now available on–line.

INTERNATIONAL

Italy
Made contact with the  active White Ribbon Campaign in Italy, which has been endorsed by Inter and AC Milan. InterMilan have made a video of support while the Captain of AC Milan wrote this letter. Statement from the Captain of  AC Milan, Paolo Maldini below .

Rough Translation of the words above:
“To pin the White ribbon on the chest is like taking on the responsibility of  captain, but in the more important game, that of life. Fair play it is an attitude that every sportsman must have when one plays a game, and the engagement not to use violence against a woman or a girl, never to raise the hands, and not to use the words in order to hurt and to offend is the attitude that every man must have in life every day.  It is important not only for us to hold these attitudes. We must also bring to others’ attention and  ensure that  others - our friends, our relatives and even men we don’t know – make this commitment.. To be full engaged we must also take part in critical situations in order to stop violence and must condemn violent behaviour.
To wear the Ribbon White is like being, at that moment, a team captain, and like a good captain, involvement means respecting the more important values of life. When playing, the violence of one player damages all the team, and, therefore, also in life to ignore violence when we know that violence exists creates damage for all society. Therefore we have decided to come down to support absolutely, with you, the Campaign of the White Ribbon men against violence.”

Combining Campaigning and Fundraising

The leader of Bury Council Wayne Campbell, gives a cheque to Jayne Platt manager of Bury Womens Aid from the proceeds of  donations made during the White Ribbon Campaign  Many organisations across the country similarly used White Ribbon activities to raise money for women’s groups.

Future planning

Planning has started for activities in the Spring of 2007, a Music and Clubbing Campaign and the further development of our November 07 campaign., and work with Sports groups.

We received some small donations and these will help in the efforts to keep the organisation expanding throughout 2007. We have the aim to increase our ribbon distribution by 300% in 2007 to around 500,000, and this will result in far more associated activities as well. While the campaigning activities are self- funding, in order to order 3x as many ribbons we require 3x as much capital.

We will also develop more areas of merchandise to support campaigning, in particular we will be printing pop up banners and leaflets  to support our music campaign.

Two of the new banners we will have available are the Rugby Player and the Hip Hop lover
