AMBASSADORS

Could you be a White Ribbon Ambassador?

Would you like to join our expanding network of Ambassadors who are changing the way that men and boys think and act about male violence against women and girls?

Our Ambassadors are trade unionists, politicians, faith, community and business leaders, teachers, students, musicians, sportsmen etc.

Positive role models who take a stand and encourage other men and boys to do so too.

You can apply to become one here, or for more information check out our leaflet here.

We want to recruit men from all walks of life, young and old, from different communities, backgrounds, professions.  If you are under 18, you can join our growing Youth Ambassador Network.

White Ribbon Ambassadors are men who act as formal representatives of the Campaign.  They do this on a voluntary unpaid basis, and we are very grateful for their support.

Our campaign is not anti-male.  On the contrary – we believe that most men deplore violence against women and will support the Campaign. As an ambassador, you’ll reach out to men and boys in your workplace, union, school etc.  You’ll look out for opportunities to inspire and inform - through presentations, conversations, social media etc.

So, do you want to make a difference?  Do you want to help reduce the estimated 1.4 million women suffering domestic violence in England and Wales (2014 figures)?   It is easy for men to turn away – but if men step up we can make a real difference.

Because together we are stronger.

White Ribbon Ambassador Stories

Ikram Butt

Ikram has been a White Ribbon Ambassador for six years.

Ikram created history by becoming the first British Asian to represent England at either code of rugby during the 1995 European Championships.

He founded the British Asian Rugby Association (BARA) with the aim to encourage more Asians to participate in sport and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Sport Science by Leeds Metropolitan University for services to community sports development in the UK and abroad.

Brian Mitchell

"The issues of domestic abuse and violence are clearly areas  that Higher Education institutes should take more seriously. For many young people this will be their first experience of real independence. Along with the excitement of ‘feeling free’ from parental direction comes a real risk, particularly for young women.

For many of the young men experiencing this new freedom it can be both a liberating and at the same time a confusing world. It is essential therefore that HEI’s embrace and get involved in promoting independence alongside responsibility and safety..Violence against women happens more than you think and is mostly committed by men. Having a daughter that experienced harassment and abuse whilst at University really shocked and upset me. Therefore it is essential that the white ribbon campaign should be adopted by universities and colleges and spread awareness regarding men having personal responsibility for their behaviour. In doing so it creates an environment where young women can feel safe and grow without fear of violence, after all isn’t that what university and college life is meant to be about?"

Michael Flood UK Visit!

We were lucky enough to have Professor Michael Flood as one of our speakers at our second All Party Parliamentary Group, and to have him facilitate a workshop on building partnerships in engaging men in gender equality. Michael is a world renowned researcher on engaging men in violence prevention, and his visits to the UK are rare. We were also really excited to have Sam Smethers speaking - a strong advocate for engaging men in gender equality initiatives, and CEO of the Fa
