Christian

Service for Women against Violence Sunday (Methodist)

On the Sunday before Advent we are reminded of the nature of the one who is to come.  We call him ‘king’ but his kingdom is very different from what people expect. The Gospel passage (John 18:33-37) reminds us that God’s kingdom is not one of power through violence (the model of kingship in Jesus’ time), rather God’s kingdom is one where truth, life, and right relationships are valued.  Elsewhere in the Gospels we discover more about the nature of God’s kingdom.  Elsewhere in John’s Gospel we learn that Christ the King has friends not servants, and subverts the notion of status.

Restored - (www.restoredrelationships.org) Restored is an international Christian alliance working to transform relationships and end violence against women. The website aims to raise awareness of the extent of violence against women worldwide, and what we can all do to end it. Central to this is a vision of transformed relationships between men and women. There are a number of downloadable resources on their website to allow Churches to become involved. Their Living as a First Man Standing resource can be downloaded from here.

Islam

A quote from Julie Siddiqui of the Islamic Society of Britain reads 'We are supporting the WRC with a message, linked from the front page of our website: www.isb.org.uk. This issue crosses over people of all backgrounds, ages and social class and the more of us that can join and tackle the issue head on the better. Well done to the WRC team, a brilliant job done once again'
