The White Ribbon Campaign UK - Men working to end men's violence against women
Training

Educational programmes

The main focus of White Ribbon UK is as a campaigning organisation, and as such our educational programmes are an important part of our work.

We are very happy to advise on educational programmes in schools and colleges as well as in informal education.

We are also able to offer detailed consultation, and will tailor make programmes for specific groups if required.

Men's programmes

White Ribbon UK is able to advise on a variety of training events to suit the needs of agencies beginning to develop perpetrator treatment services, and those already running groups in their communities. These can range from a 2 day programme to a 20 week programme of 2 hours a week.

Developing Programs:

For developing programmes, we recommend the inclusion of the following topics:

  • The historical context of domestic violence
  • The dynamics of domestic violence within the context of the power and control model
  • The phases of intervention
  • The effects of domestic violence on women and children
  • The need to identify the cultural factors in working with men of different racial and cultural groups
  • Risk factors associated with homicide and suicide
  • How to assess client progress

2 Day Agenda:

WR UK can provide a training program for those not interested in directly running groups, yet wanting an in depth understanding of how groups are run.

Day One

  • Historical Overview
  • Why Those Who are Abused are Part of the Process
  • Creating State Standards
  • What are the Different Models
  • Role Play of Different Models
  • Structure of 1st Stage Groups

Day Two

  • Role Play of Intake Group
  • Structure and Goals of Ongoing Groups
  • Community Issues for Running Batterer Groups
  • Working with Special Populations
  • Addressing Parenting Problems

Six month programme Agenda:

This is based upon the well documented CHANGE practice manual.

Sections include- Demystifying Violence, Making myself safer, Skills for non-violence, Understanding jealousy, Recognising personal change, and a number of Case Studies.
